The brew house at FARMbrew will be located in the cellar of the old Columbus pump house. It will feature an all grain infusion mash process to provide fresh craft beers. These premium quality beers will be produced in a stainless steel kettle and served without pasteurization so that beer enthusiasts can enjoy all the natural flavor and benefits of fresh craft beer.
Efficient use of water and energy will be primary concerns at FARMbrew. Environmentally friendly cleaning methods will be used to keep our brewery clean and our beers healthy and delicious.
It all starts with water. FARMbrew will use specially filtered water with just the right amount of minerals to make each beer according to styles beer enthusiasts expect.
After heating the water, we combine it with a blend of select malted barley in a stainless steel vessel called a mash tun. This is where starch in the grain is converted to sugar using the natural enzymes found in barley.
The sweet liquid (called "wort") is then removed from the grain and boiled in a large kettle. This is where hops and spices are added and a delightful blend of bittersweet flavor and aroma begins.
After boiling, the wort is cooled and moved to a fermentation tank. Yeast is added and the fermentation begins. The temperature is carefully controlled for several days while the yeast converts the wort into beer.
When fermentation is complete, the beer is transferred to a conditioning tank. In the conditioning tank the beer gets carbonated and becomes more clear as tiny yeast cells and proteins settle out to the bottom of the tank.
Finally, the beer is ready to serve. It may be packaged in bottles, kegs or cans, or served directly from the tap.
At FARMbrew we'll bring you flavors from around the world. Our English style ales will feature the same hops and barley as used in in the UK. Our lager and kolsch will use German malts and our spiced and herbal flavored beers will be infused with tasty ingredients from Belgium to Brazil.
